AP Limited Editions Urushi Lacquer Art Fountain Pen – Red Earth

The Red Earth fountain pen from AP Limited Editions is a tribute to the strength and vitality of the natural world. Its warm, earthen tones evoke the landscapes of ancient Japan—where clay, soil, and fire merge to create enduring beauty. Deeply rooted in tradition yet refined for the modern collector, this piece reflects the timeless connection between craft, nature, and spirit.

Handcrafted in Japan by master urushi artisans, the Red Earth is created through an intricate layering process that reveals rich depth and texture. Multiple coats of natural urushi lacquer are applied and polished over weeks, producing a surface that glows with quiet warmth. Subtle tonal shifts—from ochre to rust to ember—capture the living essence of the material.

The pen is fitted with a precision-engineered 14-karat gold nib and plastic feed, providing a smooth, consistent ink flow that mirrors the effortless grace of its design. Its balanced silhouette and understated sophistication make it an exceptional companion for both writing and collecting.

Produced in limited quantities, the Red Earth stands as a meditation on endurance and harmony—an object born of nature, perfected by hand, and destined to be cherished.

Materials and care

  • Avoid direct exposure to sunlight or strong UV light. Urushi lacquer is sensitive to prolonged sun exposure and may dull or become brittle over time.
  • Store the pen in a stable, indoor environment avoiding extremes of heat, cold or humidity. A relative humidity around 70–80 % and moderate temperature preserves lacquer integrity.
  • Clean the exterior gently using a soft, dry microfiber cloth. If necessary, you may lightly moisten the cloth with clean water; avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents as they can damage the lacquer finish.
  • Do not soak the pen or use an ultrasonic cleaning device on the lacquered surface—moisture and agitation can cause delamination or surface irregularities.
  • While in use or storage, avoid impact or dropping the pen, and remove any sweat, salt or harsh chemicals from contact with the pen body — these may etch the surface or alter the finish over time.
  • With proper care, your urushi-finished pen is not just a writing instrument—it is a heirloom object designed to retain its beauty and performance across decades.
