AP Limited Editions Urushi Lacquer Art Fountain Pen - Midnight
AP Limited Editions Urushi Lacquer Art Fountain Pen – Midnight
The Midnight fountain pen from AP Limited Editions captures the quiet elegance of darkness illuminated by subtle light. Inspired by the stillness of the night sky, it reflects a meditative calm—where deep shadows reveal quiet depth and understated brilliance.
Handcrafted in Japan by urushi masters, each Midnight pen is created through a meticulous layering process that can take months to complete. The lacquer is built up in multiple coats of rich, natural black, then gently polished to achieve a soft luster reminiscent of moonlight on still water. This restrained aesthetic speaks to the Japanese principle of yūgen—a profound beauty found in simplicity and mystery.
The pen is fitted with a 14-karat gold nib and plastic feed, offering an exceptionally smooth and responsive writing experience. Its balance and tactile warmth make it as functional as it is contemplative.
Produced in small numbers, Midnight embodies the philosophy of quiet refinement—a celebration of traditional craftsmanship, natural materials, and the poetry of restraint.

Materials and care
Materials and care
- Avoid direct exposure to sunlight or strong UV light. Urushi lacquer is sensitive to prolonged sun exposure and may dull or become brittle over time.
- Store the pen in a stable, indoor environment avoiding extremes of heat, cold or humidity. A relative humidity around 70–80 % and moderate temperature preserves lacquer integrity.
- Clean the exterior gently using a soft, dry microfiber cloth. If necessary, you may lightly moisten the cloth with clean water; avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents as they can damage the lacquer finish.
- Do not soak the pen or use an ultrasonic cleaning device on the lacquered surface—moisture and agitation can cause delamination or surface irregularities.
- While in use or storage, avoid impact or dropping the pen, and remove any sweat, salt or harsh chemicals from contact with the pen body — these may etch the surface or alter the finish over time.
- With proper care, your urushi-finished pen is not just a writing instrument—it is a heirloom object designed to retain its beauty and performance across decades.
